The float-out of a yacht is exciting for onlookers, especially since it’s the first time the full profile is visible. A significant-size Lürssen superyacht just emerged from her construction shed with the assistance of tugboats today. The code-named yacht Project Defy is one of the largest builds from the German yard to date, in fact.
According to AIS data, the yacht Project Defy measures about 480 feet (146.2 meters). An immense volume comes along with that, too, 10,500 gross tons.
Other facts about the megayacht, such as the beam or the number of staterooms, remain confidential. Lürssen largely cannot disclose information about the projects it has under construction. However, to put her length into perspective, she is one of the biggest boats in build at the shipyard. Before the end of this year, for example, Lürssen should hand over the yacht Deep Blue, https://megayachtnews.com/2025/08/yacht-deep-blue-sea-trials/ which began sea trials over the summer. Her LOA is 440 feet (134 meters). Notably, that makes Deep Blue the largest anticipated delivery not only from Lürssen in 2025, but also from any builder.
Even with her length and volume, the yacht Project Defy isn’t the largest-ever from Lürssen. That achievement goes to the yacht Azzam, from 2013. She comes in at 590’6” (180 meters).
Outfitting is now set to begin for Project Defy. Once delivery takes place, likely in 2027, she should also fly the Cayman Islands flag.
