Ocean Alexander 27R Yacht Takes Owners From a 19-Footer to Superyacht Territory

Legions of large-yacht owners can share stories about their first-ever boat and how they kept stepping up in size. The story behind how a couple just took delivery of their largest to date, an Ocean Alexander 27R yacht, is pretty special. In just seven years, they went from a trailerable powerboat to this superyacht. Throughout it all, their growing family has been the reason they cruise and continue to buy.

Gus Serrano, a broker with MarineMax Miami, recommended the Ocean Alexander to them, having sold them their first boat in 2018. In fact, that first boat was a 19-foot (nearly 6-meter) Sea Ray. As the years went by, the owners’ family grew up, and grew in number. The owners loved the cruising lifestyle, especially how it kept bringing the various ages together. Not surprisingly, they continued reaching out to Serrano as they realized they wanted and needed larger yachts to accommodate everyone.

Serrano likens their myriad yachts as a collective factory for making memories. “From the day we met, this family told me they wanted a boat that would keep everyone close,” he remembers. In recent months, the owners began weighing options in the entry-level superyacht sector for the first time. The 88-foot (27-meter) Ocean Alexander 27R yacht series “kept speaking to them,” Serrano says, even when evaluating other projects. “They loved the massive look, the comfortable volume, and the feeling the yacht creates as soon as you step aboard,” he adds.

The smaller sister to the Ocean Alexander 35R, the 27R is part of the Revolution series. Ocean Alexander chose the name to signify that the design and overall approach were unlike anything it had ever done. For starters, she has a high, vertical bow. This in turn permits more usable space, plus increases volume to 163 gross tons. Additionally, the 88-footer introduced nearly full-height glass along the main deck, including in the master suite. It’s important to note as well that the Ocean Alexander 27R yacht series debuted in 2021. So-called small megayacht builders simply didn’t make as much use of the volume or adopt floor-to-ceiling glass at that time.

Among the other amenities, the megayacht has four guest staterooms below decks, accompanying a dedicated gym. The owners’ full family, which now includes grandchildren, can dine alfresco on the main aft deck or the top deck. (Ocean Alexander offers an enclosed upper deck as an alternate choice, too.) Swimming in the ocean or soaking in the upper-deck hot tub are yet more options each day. Finally, a glass-enclosed beach club beckons for daytime relaxation or sunset happy hours.

On a related note, Serrano, a 20-year MarineMax veteran, is proud for more than professional reasons. “Families like this remind me why I love what I do,” he says. “I have watched them grow through hard times and big changes and stay close through boating and a shared love for the water.”

Serrano further shares, “As the owner likes to say, life smiles at us, and when things do not go our way, we smile back to life when we are onboard an Ocean Alexander.”
