First Arcadia A80new Yacht Ready for Global Debut

One week from now, the Arcadia A80new yacht series will be available for interested buyers to see for the first time. Hull number one just launched within the past week.

In announcing the series last year, the shipyard pledged to pack a lot into a small package, specifically an LOA of 79 feet (23.98 meters). That pledge includes more environmentally minded features. When Arcadia’s management team began planning the project, it considered the regulatory patchwork governing popular European cruising waters. Increasingly, anchoring is restricted to protect the Posidonia oceanica seagrass species. Although private yachts beneath the 24-meter threshold can still anchor in the restricted zones, Arcadia believed a typical operational profile would be inappropriate. Therefore, the Arcadia A80new yacht relies upon solar panels to power hotel loads, similar to her larger sisters. Notably, the megayacht has more panels than the A85 series did, the builder’s most successful range dating to 2010.

Similarly, to reduce fuel burn and emissions, the shipyard selected Volvo Penta’s IPS system. Sea trials should confirm that the Arcadia A80new yacht is 15 to 25 percent more fuel efficient compared to similar-size yachts with traditional diesels. Two IPS packages are available, the standard one offering an expected 19-knot top speed and 15-knot cruise.

The pledge to pack a lot into the yacht also meant offering creature comforts atypical of her size. Firstly, the design is a widebody design. Amplifying the roomy feeling even more, the wall of windows along one side of the saloon and dining area slide open. Secondly, the master suite sits on the main deck. Speaking of staterooms, even the crew benefit. The two double cabins below decks for them both have en suite baths.

Outside, meanwhile, the A80new has a flying bridge boasting 861 square feet (80 square meters) of usable space. According to Arcadia Yachts, this makes it the largest in this size range. Since the layout is semi-custom, the owner of hull number one requested a helm in the semi-enclosed area, along with a dining area converting to a TV lounge. For full alfresco relaxation, loose seating and sunlounges sit on deck.

Finally, another unexpected feature aboard such a “small” yacht is a garage for a 13-foot (3.95-meter) tender and other watertoys.

Appointments for tours are available for next week’s Cannes Yachting Festival. In the meantime, on launch day, Arcadia Yachts revealed it has sold the third hull in the series. The owner is a current Arcadia customer, who will take delivery next year.

“We want to continue to play a leading role in the development of yachting that respects nature, including underwater nature,” notes Ugo Pellegrino, Arcadia Yachts’ CEO.
