Baltic’s MR, which stands for “micro-rotor,” is the perfect affordable flex on the wrist. The 36mm watches in the collection feature a sturdy field-watch case paired with either a Breguet-style or dressy roulette-inspired dial and, to top it all off, a micro-rotor movement. For around €700, the Baltic MR offers unmatched style and attitude, even five years after its introduction. Now, Baltic founder Etienne Malec is working on an updated MR. But before putting the OG MR to rest, he decided to do something special. The Baltic MR Moissanite, with a bezel full of baguette-cut stones, was supposed to be a one-off. However, it is now available as a limited edition of only 200 pieces.
The Baltic MR debuted in 2021 with an elegant Breguet-style dial. But a big part of its success was that the micro-rotor movement was visible through the display case back. Sure, most watch enthusiasts would love to own something with a micro-rotor movement. Unfortunately, most of those watches cost well over €10k. The Baltic MR made owning a micro-rotor movement more accessible, and the rest of the watch also looked quite attractive. In 2024, Baltic introduced the MR Roulette, featuring a different dial design. It’s now time for another update…but not before the original MR goes out with a bang.
The Baltic MR Moissanite
By now, you’re probably already familiar with the Baltic MR. These 36mm watches offer classic proportions, including a 44mm lug-to-lug and 9.9mm thickness with the domed acrylic crystal. To accentuate its slender profile, the MR features a horizontally brushed mid-case. This looks very sexy, sandwiched between the polished sides of the case back and the bezel. Usually, the MR has a vertically brushed finish on top of the bezel. This time, however, things are slightly different.
To celebrate the final series of the original Baltic MR, the brand’s designer, Jas, decided to decorate the MR’s bezel with lustrous baguette-cut moissanite stones. You can choose to pair it with either the Breguet-style or the roulette-style dial design. The combination of the black dials and the gem-set bezel really shines, like a woman’s diamond necklace with a perfect black dress.
A blacked-out micro-rotor movement
For this occasion, the Hangzhou 5000A micro-rotor movement also received a special finish. Usually, the movement has steel-colored bridges with circular Geneva stripes. However, this time, the bridges are blacked out, feature a coarse finish, and have polished, raised edges. The rest of the specs are still the same as before. The automatic movement runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour, features 34 jewels, and has a 42-hour power reserve. It’s visible through the Hesalite crystal in the case back. The whole construction is water resistant to 30 meters.
Ready to shine
Sure, the fully moissanite-set bezel is way over the top for a watch at this price point. However, it also totally works, and I’m sure many people will be all over this special-edition Baltic MR. The lustrous bezel suits the elegant MR, and its limited status also adds to its desirability. The blacked-out micro-rotor movement is a nice touch, and makes the Baltic MR Moissanite even more special than it already was.
