Azimut Magellano 27M Yacht Is All About Living In Situ

Azimut’s Magellano series of long-range cruisers is growing, and the latest model draws inspiration from living in situ—being in her native environment. The designer who came up with this concept for the Azimut Magellano 27M yacht is new to Azimut, too, but not the world of yachting.

Specifically, the Finnish designer Jarkko Jämsen is responsible for the styling. This represents a departure from the flagship Azimut Magellano 30M yacht (bottom) and smaller sisters, all with styling by Ken Freivokh. Jämsen has earned renown for a variety of sailing yachts, but has also collaborated with motoryacht and megayacht builders. He approached designing the 86-footer (26-meter, available with an elongated swim platform) by considering how to make her a more natural complement to the seas upon which she’ll travel. He didn’t want the sense that the small superyacht was trying to conquer her environment. Therefore, the design reveals a multiplicity of clean lines, plus complex curves to reflect light from the sky and the water. Additionally, picture-window-like glass and louver-like design details break down barriers between those on deck and the surroundings.

Yet another newcomer to Azimut—and to yachting—collaborated on the Azimut Magellano 27M yacht, AMDL Circle. The studio’s founder, Michele De Lucchi, is an architect and industrial designer, and a strong believer that meaningful stories support each design. Similar to Jamsen, the studio approached the project as a way to better experience being at sea. So, for instance, just as when you’re outside, you’re surrounded by natural light throughout the yacht’s interiors. Materials like the pale wood on the walls, ceilings, and furniture soften it. Most importantly, AMDL Circle envision the full main deck as a loggia, a porch-like area bathed in light. The wood elements further call to mind traditional Mediterranean pergolas and patios.

So far Azimut hasn’t revealed anticipated performance figures, although hull number one should be in the water this time next year.
