Mercedes recently unveiled the new CLA, an all-electric car that, like the latest BMW all-electric, is meant to usher in a new era. Now there is the 2027 GLC EV, which is built on a new platform, just like the CLA, platforms that can form the basis of many other cars in Mercedes-Benz‘s lineup.
New platforms are also not the kind of thing automakers do lightly, since they are supposed to last for years: The CLA and, now, the GLC EV, are statements of intent for Mercedes-Benz. The statement is simple: Despite what you’ve heard about the death of EVs, Mercedes thinks they will be around for decades to come, and will be more than ready.
The all-electric GLC was unveiled in Munich. It will come in two flavors, one of them with motors on the front and rear axles, which will make 483 horsepower and a cheaper version with a single motor on the rear axle which will make 369 horsepower. The dual-motor version of those will get to 60 mph from a stop in 4.4 seconds.

Inside, the big news is the all-electric GLC’s screen, which measures 39.1 inches and spans the front dash and is the biggest screen in Mercedes history, the marque says. That screen is branded as the Hyperscreen, and is an option; standard are two 14-inch screens and a third 10.1-inch screen, which makes less of a visual impact.
At its fastest, the all-electric GLC will charge to 80 percent in 24 minutes from a 10 percent charge. Mercedes does not have EPA estimates for the range just yet, but Car and Driver thinks it will be around 376 miles in total.
The all-electric GLC is expected to be available in late 2026 and early 2027, with the first going on sale being the dual-motor version, with the single-motor, rear-wheel drive version coming later. Mercedes did not disclose a price, but since it is going head-to-head with the new BMW iX3, we can assume that it will be similar to that car’s price, which is starting around $81,000 in Europe.
In terms of sales volume, the GLC is Mercedes’ number-one performer globally, which underscores how important this car is for the automaker. In the U.S., the GLC runs about even with the GLE in terms of sales, at around 65,000 cars each sold annually. Mercedes will be hoping to perhaps add to those sales with the all-electric GLC; by the time it comes out late next year, who knows, electric cars may be on the upswing again, too.
