On Wednesday, cosmetics maker L’Oréal Paris collaborated with Indian retail juggernaut Reliance Retail’s Tira Beauty to spotlight rising Indian fashion and beauty talent. Titled “Runway to Paris” and held in Mumbai, the runway-style show saw eight student teams present their designs before a jury of leading industry professionals. The show is “a movement that celebrates creativity, inclusivity, and empowerment,” said Dario Zizzi, general manager of L’Oréal Paris India in a statement.
The evening was inspired by L’Oréal’s annual fashion show Le Défilé, which champions individuality through its “walk your worth” motto, bringing the excitement of Paris Fashion Week to India. The winners of the competition, Palak Birla and Pratika Gupta, will attend Le Défilé at Paris Fashion Week later this month.
For Tira, Reliance’s online and in-store beauty channel that launched in 2023, the partnership aims to help to establish the brand’s credibility against local competitors like Nykaa and Sephora India. L’Oréal’s involvement points to the mounting importance of India for beauty, where young, social-media-focused consumers are expected to grow the market five times to $4 billion by 2035.
Bhakti Modi, co-founder of Tira, says “this collaboration is a natural extension of Tira’s vision to democratise beauty and fashion experiences in India… empowering young designers and giving consumers access to global trends.”
