After moving from Chicago to Texas and opening a storefront in Houston for Biscuit, a bedding brand she launched in 2012, interior designer and blogger Bailey McCarthy was burned out. She admittedly needed to sit and regroup, but instead the mother and wife decided to “build a farm about it,” she told PaperCity Magazine in 2022.
In no time, the McCarthys settled down on a Bellville ranch with a 100-year-old farmhouse and vast acreage for livestock to roam. Pete McCarthy, Bailey’s husband, has developed a trio of dining concepts under their Goodnight Hospitality group, and for their home, which they cleverly named Goodthyme Farm, they tapped some of America’s top names to give it what they called a “cinematic” effect.

The McCarthys first worked with the landscape architecture firm Reed+Hilderbrand on a 10-year plan for the now 352-acre property before the Houston-based architecture firm Curtis & Windham was asked to create the blueprint for their new main residence, which was completed in June 2018. In bold contrast to the house’s crisp and stately Greek Revival-inspired design, its mise en scène-style interiors by N.Y.C.-based interior designer Miles Redd of Redd Kaihoi give it a playful, Wes Anderson-like edge.
Caroline Bean of Compass holds the $29 million listing that lies about halfway between Austin and Houston with a guest house, pool, tennis court, and a vintage trailer.

According to Bean, the McCarthys are selling the property now that life has gotten busier and their two children have gotten older. “They haven’t been able to make as many trips to Goodthyme as they would like,” she tells Robb Report. Their now offering up the family friendly estate with 10 bedrooms and 11 bathrooms to a new owners to make their own unforgettable memories. Five of the bedrooms are in the 5,720-square-foot main house, while another handful sleep visitors in the spacious guest house that includes a game room awash in a dizzying but inviting display of colors and patterns.
In addition to the brick and stone fireplaces in the main house, both residences feature eye-catching interior details like scenic and floral wallcoverings. A lush sylvan landscape wraps around the breakfast room, with its custom tufted leather banquette, while cowboys appear in conversation on the walls of the primary bedroom. Other key highlights include a tented bar in the living room, a spacious dining room, and a screened porch that overlooks the grounds.

Recreation and leisure options include a pool and tennis court, along with a couple of picturesque ponds, one with a stone patio on its shoreline, while an old camper updated with air conditioning and chic interiors makes a unique guest space or quiet retreat.
Barns and fenced pastures, along with several greenhouses, hoop houses, and other agrarian outbuildings, make up the property’s farming facilities. The McCarthys employed a team for the livestock and farming operations, and subject to mutual agreement between the new owner and the existing team, they could be willing to stay on.
