Charlotte Moss Lists Her Upper East Side Townhouse for $14.5 Million

New York interior designer Charlotte Moss is known for her prowess in curating homes with a warm, layered, and timeless aesthetic. While her deft handiwork is evident in the frequently published residences of her clients, it’s no different when it comes to her own private spaces.

Case in point: Moss’s chic Upper East Side townhouse that is now on the market for $14.5 million, with Nikki Field and Dana Kirshenbaum at Sotheby’s International Realty, East Side Manhattan Brokerage holding the listing. The Lenox Hill estate, built in 1884 by the architect F.T. Camp, is recognized by the National Park Service as a certified historic structure.

The Queen Anne–style residence spans six floors, with an elevator allowing for easy access among the levels. Throughout, Moss has retained many of the home’s original details while also adding her stamp, selecting antiques and furnishings from around the world, some of them available for purchase along with the townhouse.

Bespoke millwork, soaring ceilings, and light-filled spaces create an elegant, stately feel as you swan from room to room. Starting at the garden level, a wrought-iron gate takes you through a landscaped courtyard garden and into a marble vestibule. Just inside, the chef’s kitchen sports a custom banquette and flows into the formal dining room, with hand-painted wallpaper and a wood-burning fireplace. French doors along one of the walls spill open to the red-brick rear garden, which includes mirrored trellises and a fireplace-warmed pergola.

The second floor has both north- and south-facing parlors. Both rooms have wood-burning fireplaces, while the rear parlor has a hidden walk-in wet bar and a trio of French doors that open to Juliet balconies above the garden. The primary suite sprawls over the entire third floor with a fireplace in the bedroom; two bathrooms outfitted in marble and wood; and a two-room closet and dressing area. Two additional en suite bedrooms sit another floor up, with five bedrooms and seven baths in total.

Bibliophiles will gravitate to the fifth floor, where a 400-square-foot library stretches the full width of the residence. Red fabric wraps the walls, which are lined with built-in shelving, display space, and a custom ladder for reaching high-up tomes. An oversized bulkhead serves as a penthouse-level gym that spills out to a rooftop deck, and, down on the lowest level, there’s a Provence-inspired wine cellar and a tucked-away office.

Along with her Upper East Side spread that reflects her classic style, Moss and her family maintain a cottage in East Hampton, according to public records.
