As motoryachts continue expanding into the extra-large megayacht sector, so, too, are sailing yachts. The Royal Huisman Trident 810 series offers sailing enthusiasts a grander experience rooted in the builder’s existing flybridge schooner projects.
The Trident 810 series derives its name from the LOA, 81 meters (266 feet). As much as clients still receive a custom design, they save time by relying on a proven naval architecture platform. In fact, Royal Huisman says construction time is three years. Primary features of the platform are a long waterline, for instance, plus a Panamax rig (air draft is 202 feet /61.8 meters). The engineering is by Dykstra Naval Architects. The studio also created a sail-management system that makes quick work of hoisting the three mainsails simultaneously. According to Royal Huisman, it takes the same amount of time that it does on a yacht half her size. Given the 27,770-square-foot (2,580-square-meter) sail area, it’s impressive.

Making operations like this simpler was a key goal for the Trident 810 yacht series. Conveniently, it leverages the experience gleaned from Sea Eagle II, which put more than 45,000 miles under her hull in her first three years of cruising. She saw delivery in 2020 and continues sailing extensively. Not only was Dykstra Naval Architects behind that, but Mark Whiteley Design shared styling duties. The studio further designed the interior, and is available for working with clients this time around. A party of 12 can stay aboard, with a crew of 14. Throughout the yacht, social spaces and private retreats can be as bold or as soothing as suits the owners’ personality.
The successor to Sea Eagle II (now Sea Eagle), and therefore the first Trident 810 yacht series build, is under construction and available. Multiple profiles and interior configurations are available for conversation starters on Royal Huisman’s website.
