Alpine charm meets Italian soul in our unique 5 day Trentino itinerary, where wellness, adventure and wild beauty collide. Follow in the exact footsteps of our Editor Jessica Ruth Gibson and experience the very best of Northern Italy in the Spring and early summer.
Introducing Trentino
If you’ve always dreamed of planning an active holiday around Italy’s Northern mountains and lakes, let us introduce you to the region of Trentino. Home to mountains, steams, rivers, lakes, waterfalls, castles and quaint villages, there is so much to discover within Trentino’s spectacular valleys. Trentino is a place of outstanding natural beauty and is situated in Northern Italy, very close to the Austrian border. In fact, this region of Italy was once actually part of Austria, and I could really feel this in all of Trentino’s wooden and alpine architecture. It’s a beautiful and unique hybrid between traditional alpine charm and rich Italian culture – a combination I had never come across before. It’s also the perfect place to get active, disconnect and enjoy the great outdoors. If that sounds like an appealing cocktail to you, read on. I’m going to show you how to experience the very best of Trentino in just 5 days.

I was lucky enough to experience Trentino on a 4 day press trip with Visit Trentino and Travelista contributor Em Hope. Undoubtably, tourism in Trentino peaks in the winter months due to the Ski season, but once the snow has melted and the crowds have left, Trentino blooms into an idyllic Springtime paradise. We visited in May of 2025, which turned out to be an incredible time to visit because of the weather and how quiet it was. It also meant we got to see the region from a different perspective, unlocking Springtime activities and pursuits which simply wouldn’t be possible in winter.
With expert knowledge, tips and recommendations from Trentino locals and guides, I was able to design a Trentino itinerary that would show the very best of what this region has to offer. This particular Trentino itinerary has also been inspired by the theme of Alpine Wellness, so you will notice a combination of adventure and wellbeing activities using power of alpine nature such as hiking, cycling and thermal spas.
Trentino is divided into 12 territories, each of which has peculiarities that make it unique. This itinerary is based across Trentino’s Val Rendena, Fiavé, and Comano Terme.
This article and featured itinerary is based on a press trip completed with Visit Trentino in May 2025. All words and views are our own.

5 Day Itinerary for Trentino in the Spring
Near Trentino: Where To Extend Your Itinerary
Getting to Trentino
Trentino is surprisingly easy to reach from a number of major Italian cities. The closest airports include:
• Verona Airport (VRN) – around 1.5 to 2 hours’ drive
• Milan Bergamo Airport (BGY) – approx. 2.5 to 3 hours’ drive
• Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE) – approx. 3 hours’ drive
• Milan Malpensa (MXP) – approx. 3.5 hours’ drive
Flights to Verona and Milan are frequent from most major UK airports, particularly during the spring and summer seasons. Once you land, you’ll be on alpine roads and heading into the mountains in no time.
A Word on Hire Cars
Let me give it to you straight — hiring a car is essential if you want to follow this itinerary in full. While public transport can get you to the bigger towns, many of the most beautiful experiences in Trentino are tucked away off the beaten path. A car gives you the freedom to explore properly and move at your own pace.
I get that hiring a car abroad can feel daunting — especially if you’re not used to driving on the right-hand side — but trust me when I say it’s completely manageable. I was nervous myself, particularly about getting out of Milan, but within minutes of leaving the car hire depot, I was cruising down a straight motorway with the mountains on the horizon. As is so often the case, the anticipation was far worse than the reality.

Why Visit Trentino in the Spring?
If you’re wondering when to go, let me make the case for spring — it’s truly magical.
• As the winter snow begins to melt, the alpine streams and waterfalls flow at full force, fed by the fresh mountain ice.
• Days are long and sun-drenched, with average temperatures and typical weather around 16–20°C — perfect for hiking, cycling or simply relaxing outside.
• During the arrival of spring, nature comes alive again with blossoming wildflowers, free-flowing icy streams, lush greenery and crystal-clear skies.
• It’s also low season, so the roads are quiet, the trails are blissfully empty, and you’ll often feel like you have the landscape all to yourself.
Spring in Trentino feels like a well-kept secret — and it just might become your new favourite time of year to explore the Alps. Early summer would also be a great time to visit, but you can expect it to be busier in general.

5 Day Trentino Itinerary for Spring
This itinerary works perfectly as a standalone long weekend or can be woven into a wider Northern Italy road trip. Whether you’re craving fresh mountain air, alpine wellness or simply want to reconnect with nature, this Trentino itinerary showcases the very best of the region in the springtime.
Day 1: Arrival and Settling In
Drive from Milan Bergamo Airport to Trentino
Milan Bergamo is the closest major international airport to Trentino, and chances are this is where your Italian alpine adventure will begin. Pick up your hire car from the airport and prepare for a scenic 2 hour and 40 minute drive into the heart of the Italian Alps. As you venture further north, the landscape transforms — think vast lakes, lush green mountains and charming terracotta towns dotted along the way. If time allows, make a stop in Salò or Desenzano del Garda for a relaxed lakeside lunch or coffee break to soak in the views and ease into the slower pace of Trentino life.

Check in to: Hotel Palazzo Lodron Bertelli
Piazza Sant’Antonio 8, 38080 Caderzone Terme (TN)
Tucked away in the medieval village of Caderzone Terme, the boutique Hotel Palazzo Lodron Bertelli is a historic gem with serious charm. Housed in a 17th-century palace, Hotel Palazzo Lodron Bertelli combines heritage elegance with alpine warmth. Expect wooden beams, original stone walls, vintage furnishings and charming mountain views. The hotel also boasts a tranquil underground wellness area — a welcome treat after a day of travel. The hotel is owned and run by a Stefano and wife, who both take a very warm, welcoming and hands-on approach.

If Hotel Palazzo Lodron Bertelli is not your style or price point, browse all hotels in Caderzone Terme.

PM: Dinner at Garni Ristorante Pizerria Casa Moresc
Via Fisto, 6/a/b, 38088 Spiazzo TN, Italy
Freshen up and take a gentle walk around the narrow and charming streets of Caderzone Terme before heading out to Casa Moresc, a nearby hidden gem of a guest house and restaurant. With its traditional alpine facade, cosy interiors and menu full of fresh, seasonal dishes, Casa Moresc’s pizzeria is a local favourite. The regional wine list is excellent too — try a glass of Nosiola or Teroldego.
Casa Moresc is also a guest house, so it’s also a good alternative accommodation option for this itinerary.

Day 2: E-Biking and Alpine Wellness
AM: Guided E-Bike Ride Through the Rendena Valley
Ease into the rhythm of Trentino life with a guided e-bike tour through the lush and peaceful Rendena Valley. E-bike rentals are available directly from Hotel Palazzo Lodron Bertelli, and the team can arrange for a knowledgeable local guide from Mountain Friends to lead the experience.
The route meanders through idyllic alpine villages including Caderzone, Carisolo, Pinzolo, Giustino, Massimeno, Bocenago, Strembo, Spiazzo and Pelugo. With the help of an e-bike, you’ll cover much more ground (and elevation) than a traditional cycle — all while gliding past flower-filled meadows, grazing cattle and snow-dusted peaks. This was my first ever time using an e-bike and after a simple tutorial on how to use the power settings, it felt totally effortless to use. You can choose to turn the power off entirely, or increase the power depending on incline and energy levels.

Stop for a leisurely lunch at Bici Grill Rendena (Via Al Sarca, 14, 38080 Porte di Rendena TN, Italy) , a peaceful picnic-style restaurant in the heart of the valley. This experience was a highlight of my trip — there’s something so soul-soothing about cycling in total silence with only the sound of birdsong and river streams to guide you.

PM: Wellness at Hotel Palazzo Lodron Bertelli
After your outdoor adventure, head straight to the hotel’s underground wellness centre for a relaxing afternoon. The spa facilities include a serene swimming pool, Turkish bath, salt cave, calidarium, emotional showers and a quiet relaxation lounge. To enhance the experience, book a full-body massage using the local cirmolo pine oi, known for its deeply relaxing and grounding properties.

In the evening, enjoy a home-cooked dinner at the hotel, prepared by Stefano’s wife and inspired by local Trentino flavours.

Day 3: Hiking to Waterfalls in the Val di Genova
AM: Guided Hike in the Val di Genova
Fuel up with breakfast, lace up your boots and prepare for a magical morning hiking in the Val di Genova — also known as the valley of waterfall. With its cascading falls, pristine woodland and views of the Adamello mountains, it’s a true natural paradise. Although experienced hikers could navigate the trails independently, I highly recommend hiring a guide from Mountain Friends. Our guide, Andrea Chesi, elevated the entire experience — from tasting sap straight from the trees to wading into icy mountain streams. She created space for presence and connection, allowing us to enjoy the moment without worrying about directions.

The trails are relatively gentle and follow roads and forest paths. There are some inclines, but nothing too strenuous — it’s all about maximum reward for minimal effort. We ended our hike with lunch at a charming valley restaurant overlooking a dramatic waterfall.

PM: Drive to Fiavé
After your hike, check out and take the scenic 40-minute drive to Fiavé. Winding roads, open meadows and pine forests line the way — and yes, there are a few hairpin bends, but nothing too daunting.
Check in to: Maso Torbiera Rural and Mountain Lodging.
This unique agriturismo offers a farm-stay experience like no other. Designed in a striking, eco-conscious wooden barn, Maso Torbiera Rural and Mountain Lodging is family-run and full of heart. There are just four beautifully minimalist ensuite rooms, each offering panoramic views of the surrounding valley. In the morning, enjoy a rustic and tasty breakfast with croissants, freshly-laid eggs and local cheeses.

If time allows before dinner, take a short walk to the nearby Fiavé Pile-Dwelling Archaeological Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site showcasing prehistoric stilt-house remains.
Luxury Alternative: If you prefer a more premium experience, check in instead to the nearby Grand Hotel Terme di Comano, a 4-star wellness hotel where you’ll visit on Day 4.

Dinner at Maso Marocc
Località Maroc, Snc, 38077 Comano Terme TN, Italy
Tucked away in the hills above Fiavé and Comano Terme, Maso Marocc is a rustic restaurant and 3 star hotel with jaw-dropping views over the valley. Enjoy hearty, home-style Trentino cuisine — think polenta, slow-cooked meat, wild mushrooms and creamy alpine cheeses. The road up has a few hairpins, but by now you’ll feel like a local behind the wheel.

Overnight in Fiavé (at Maso Torbiera or Grand Hotel Terme di Comano)
Day 4: Thermal Wellness at Terme di Comano
Full Day: Spa Experience at Grand Hotel Terme di Comano
Set against a stunning mountain backdrop, Grande Hotel Terme di Comano is one of Trentino’s most prestigious thermal spa resorts, famous for its mineral-rich waters with natural healing properties. These waters are especially renowned for treating skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis, and the area has long been a destination for wellness seekers.

Book a full-day spa experience at Grand Hotel Terme di Comano, where you’ll have access to indoor and outdoor thermal pools with hydromassage, a panoramic rooftop pool (seasonal), jacuzzi, bio-sauna, Finnish sauna, Turkish Baths, Thalasso spa and Mediterranean baths, nebulised thermal showers and a sun terrace with loungers and day beds. We also got to take part in an aerial yoga class during our spa day at Terme di Comano which added a brand new experience and a lovely dose of gentle activity to our day.

A wellness lunch is included and served al fresco on the elegant restaurant terrace — an experience that truly blurs the line between nourishment and indulgence. For the ultimate unwind, you can also add on a 20-minute body massage tailored to your needs.

After a full day of healing and relaxation, stay on for an aperitif on the terrace bar. We opted for two Hugo Spritz — a refreshing elderflower cocktail native to Austria and Northern Italy — as the sun set behind the hills.
Top Tip: Unlike in the UK, women’s massages in Italy are usually topless, where they massage your whole upper body. If you feel uncomfortable about this, you should request to remain covered at the start of your massage.

Overnight in Fiavé
Day 5: Departure or Onward Travel
Depending on your travel plans, Day 5 could either be your departure day or the start of an extended Italian adventure.
If you’re flying out from Milan Bergamo, you can break up the 2 hr 40 min drive with a stop at Lake Garda, which lies en route. We pulled into Lago di Garda town, where we enjoyed a walk along the water followed by a pistachio gelato and espresso. Even a short visit to this iconic lake adds a romantic flourish to the end of your Trentino trip.
If you’ve got more time, consider adding on extra destinations like Lake Como, Verona or the Dolomites — all within a 2-3 hour drive.

Near Trentino: Where To Extend Your Itinerary
Trentino is perfectly placed to explore some of Northern Italy’s most iconic destinations. If you’re basing yourself in Fiavé, you’re within easy reach of shimmering lakes, dramatic peaks, and elegant towns. Whether you’re planning scenic day trips or extending your itinerary, here are some nearby highlights worth adding to your list.

The Dolomites
Distance from Fiavé: ~50 km | Drive time: 1 hour 15 mins
While Trentino is technically part of the southern Dolomites, you can drive deeper into the heart of this UNESCO-listed mountain range for even more dramatic landscapes. Popular areas like Val di Fassa and Val Gardena offer picture-perfect villages, alpine hikes and panoramic cable car rides.
Lake Garda
Distance from Fiavé: ~30 km | Drive time: 45 mins
Lake Garda is Trentino’s southern gem, and one of Italy’s most beloved lakes. The northern towns of Riva del Garda and Torbole are closest to Fiavé, and ideal for swimming, sailing, and strolling along lakeside promenades. This is the perfect day trip from Fiavé — especially in spring, before the summer buzz begins.
Unique Hikes, Tours and Activities around Lake Garda.

South Tyrol (Alto Adige)
Distance from Fiavé: ~65–100 km | Drive time: 1.5–2 hours
Head north from Trentino and you’ll reach South Tyrol, where alpine-meets-Austrian charm continues. Visit Merano for mountain spas and art nouveau cafés, or explore Bolzano, home to Ötzi the Iceman and some of Italy’s best white wines.
Lake Como
Distance from Fiavé: ~170 km | Drive time: ~3 hours
A longer but totally worthwhile drive from Fiavé will take you to Lake Como, the crown jewel of Lombardy’s lakes. Expect winding roads, glitzy villas and views that look like something out of a movie. If you’re flying into Milan, this makes an excellent stop en route to or from Trentino.
Unique Tours and Experiences in Lake Como.
Verona
Distance from Fiavé: ~120 km | Drive time: 2 hours
Romantic, walkable, and packed with history, Verona is a dream day trip from Trentino. Explore Roman amphitheatres, Juliet’s balcony, and pretty piazzas before heading back to the calm of the mountains.
These four days spent in Trentino have been a true travel highlight of 2025 for me, and I wholeheartedly recommend planning a trip to Trentino and the wider Italian Alps in spring time. I felt so much peace, calm and freedom on this trip and whether it was the destination itself or just something in the Alpine air, it was enough to have me returning time and time again.
