Before I even get into this, I just want to reiterate that I’m not a Tesla hater. On the contrary, I think Tesla is one of Earth’s most ingenious brands, and its cars have changed the game for the better. However, I came across another unhappy Tesla owner’s Reddit diary today, and it truly made me stop, press play, grind my teeth, and grab my laptop. What he details is his steering wheel making an almost anxiety-triggering sound when he moves it from one position to the next, and, to no avail, he has been unable to get Tesla to handle it. More context: This driver is in a 2025 Model 3, so there’s no reason for nuisance quite yet. It seems this might be an issue that other Model 3 owners are also struggling with.
Love A Moaning, Groaning Steering Wheel? Tesla Has You Covered
Ah, the scene of the crime. Very nice. I came across a Reddit thread about this person’s horrifyingly loud steering wheel and how Tesla basically told him he’s SOL, which truly baffles me. The real kicker is that following a message between the owner and Tesla support, the agent said, “Sorry, this has to happen in person.” The Redditor goes on to say he did have a real-life tech look inside of his Model 3 and listen to the wheel ache and moan, pretending it was entirely normal and expected. Is this bad quality, or just a heavy machine doing its thing?
Not cool, Tesla. Not cool. There hasn’t been much official word on this from the big T, and I’d guess nobody will say anything differently moving forward.
If Your Tesla Model 3 Has An Issue, It’s Your New Forever
Unlike what you’d expect from an iconic and luxury-leaning car brand, the support for owners experiencing issues with their EVs is abysmal. The owner of this loud Model 3 has been back and forth with Tesla’s team for a while, arguing in his favor for a repair by the brand, while they continue to tell him everything is fine and he’s being overdramatic.
Direct from the thread: “I’ve owned two Model 3s — no noise on the first one. No noise on the loaner they gave me. And none of my many friends and family with Teslas (most referred by me) have this sound either.” One commenter adds to this by saying, “This 100%. I reported exactly the same noise on my 2020 MЗP, and Tesla told me what you have said.”
