You could just say the word “Evo,” and every dude knew you were referring to the World Rally Championship-dominating Lancer Evolution. Likewise, Mitsubishi was just as much of a titan on off-roading circuits, like Dakar—and that translated directly to 4x4s that sold well in the U.S. The Mitsubishi Montero (and Dodge Raider which the two companies co-assembled) was an icon of dirt shredding before the idea of off-road-worthiness became ubiquitous.
