Mangusta – We Are Dream Shapers

Overmarine Group is celebrating its first 40 years in luxury yachting.

Established in 1985 by Giuseppe Balducci, Overmarine Group is today one of the top players in the yachting industry. In fact, it has been a leader in the construction of Maxi Open yachts under the Mangusta brand since the early 1990s.

During those years, Maurizio and Katia Balducci, the two children of the Group’s founder, joined him at the helm. The third generation in the family is now in the business, too, taking forward an entirely family-run tradition. This is key to ensure continuity and a personal relationship with each and every customer.

The brand’s name, Mangusta (mangoose), was in itself a declaration of intent. It was precisely a symbolic challenge by the Balducci family to Tecnomarine’s Cobra range of fast open yachts. The family named the brand after the only animal capable of defeating cobras.

One historic moment came in 1991, with the launch of the Mangusta 80 Open. This was the first sporty craft over 24 meters in length, with streamlined lines, speeds above 40 knots, and far more generous under-deck spaces than many better-known competitors.

Following the launch of the Mangusta 80, the cooperation with designer Stefano Righini developed into the creation of a whole generation of unforgettable models ranging between 72 and 130 feet.

In 2014, Overmarine decided to enter the market of displacement vessels, the largest segment in the boating industry. It began building them with modern, unprecedentedly sleek lines. This therefore meant moving away from the style of any other displacement yachts so far. To do so, the shipyard teamed up with a young designer from the automotive sector, Alberto Mancini. The fruit of their joint work was the Mangusta Oceano 42, a vessel whose design and solutions marked a watershed in the industry. This cooperation continues with every model of the Mangusta Oceano and Mangusta GranSport line.

With designer Igor Lobanov, meanwhile, Mangusta reinterpreted its iconic lines in a contemporary key. Simultaneously, they preserved the family feeling that has always made the brand immediately recognizable. Two models thus resulted: the Mangusta 104 REV and the Mangusta 165 REV. In 2019, the Mangusta 104 REV marked a new chapter in the Maxi Open range. In 2021, Mangusta took another step forward, launching the Mangusta 165 REV, an over-50-meter-long vessel continuing Lobanov’s stylistic vision. This model’s streamlined profile, drawing inspiration from the sporty cars of the 1930s, has soft yet assertive shapes that blend strength and sensuality to create timeless beauty.

The Mangusta Maxi Open REV, the Mangusta Oceano, and the Mangusta GranSport lines embody three different ways of living the sea.

Mangusta Maxi Open yachts are for customers who love moving quickly between different locations. The Mangusta Oceano is a range of displacement vessels having a cruising speed of 11 knots and a transoceanic range. Finally, customers looking for the golden mean between these two lines will find the perfect solution in Overmarine Group’s Mangusta GranSport models.

Having its roots in the 1960s, the Overmarine Group celebrates a proud record of over 320 yachts launched to this day. What’s more, more than 20 metal vessels have been delivered to date, 110 of which exceed 100 feet in length. Overmarine Group keeps evolving, headed by Balducci’s second and third generations.
