This Driver Exceeded His Hyundai Ioniq 6’s Range In Impressive Fashion

While scrolling through Reddit, one post immediately caught my eye. Not because it was anything super fancy or groundbreaking, but when I realized this EV driver exceeded his car’s range by 30 miles, I honestly didn’t understand how it could happen. As an electric vehicle owner and driver myself, I have been through the highs and lows of being inside one of these future-forward creations. Range anxiety must mean zilch to this man, especially considering he achieved his range-exceeding 300 miles on the highway. Spoiler: He has a 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6, the AWD Limited version, and its EPA-estimated and Hyundai-estimated range is 270, at best. So…where did the additional 30 miles come from?

If there is one thing I always cheer on, it’s people exceeding their max range and not having to charge every 200 miles at a sketchy station along major U.S. highways. While on the Ioniq 6 subreddit this past week, I caught a glimpse of one of the rare cases where a car battery actually holds its charge during highway/higher speed driving, and I’ve been obsessed ever since.

Hyundai gets a so-so rep in terms of its build quality, and with EVs as unique as the Ioniq family, it’s not a surprise people took a second to warm up to the idea. However, the Ioniq 6 and 5 have been quickly becoming some of the most purchased EVs here in the USA, and with news of range being exceeded by 30 miles popping up, the future certainly could look bright.

Here’s what the driver said regarding the conditions that got him here:

AC runs at 62° at speed 3, or 1/off if I’m a bit cold. I only go 5 over the speed limit when traffic isn’t bad (lots of roadwork where I’m at). Outside temps were between 50° and 80° this past week and a half. I drive in normal mode with sport graphics turned on.

This Isn’t The First Time It’s Happened

Another note I must make here is that the Ioniq 6 has been known to hit 300-ish miles here and there. 270 max range is the benchmark Hyundai gave this one, and as of 2025, we have seen several instances of the EV going beyond the “standard.” Great PR for Hyundai, less stress for people on road trips or not wanting to be married to the charging cable. Been there, hate it.
