Action Bronson is typically known for two properties when it comes to his New Balance collaborations: maximalist color schemes and eccentric names. The latter certainly applies to his next sneaker, as it does little to indicate what’s actually going on for the rapper’s first take on the 992.
The Action Bronson x New Balance 992 “Tiger Eye” is a collision of New York City icons. The majority of the upper is rendered in tan suede, invoking the Timberland 6-Inch Boot in “Wheat” that’s particularly popular in the five boroughs. Orange and blue, the colors of the Knicks and Mets, then pop out through the mesh windows, tongue and heel cutout. A metallic silver 992-branded panel can also be found beneath the collar, below which comes a tan panel bearing “Baklava” debossing, and the shoe is capped off with an all-black sole unit.
In addition to this variant, Bronson posted an in-hand image of his 992 in a purple-dominant colorway aptly dubbed “digitalis Purpurea.” Both editions, which feature Made in USA construction, were teased as recently as August, but it’s the “Tiger Eye” that’s the focal point of a promotional video posted Wednesday with various nature scenes.
Bronson once worked in a kitchen at Shea Stadium, former home of the Mets, and just last month the Queens native attended Citi Field to throw out the first pitch. Perhaps even more famously a Knicks fan, he’s also taken in numerous games courtside.
The 992 is the latest model to appear in collaboration with Bronson, following several 990v6s, two 1906Rs, a FuelCell Rebel v4 and Minimus Trail.
The Action Bronson x New Balance 992 “Tiger Eye” is expected to release in September through the websites of Bronson and New Balance, as well as select third-party retailers. Pricing is set at $250.
