This brand’s latest classic G-Wagen restomod offers up a long wheelbase for a roomier and still highly stylish ride.
The Expedition Motor Company LWB (Long Wheelbase) Cabrio G-Wagen, or EMC LWB Cabrio for short, or LWB Cabrio for even shorter, was unveiled earlier this week by the coachbuilder. The shop has been restoring and refining shorter wheelbase G-Wagens for years now, with the LWB Cabrio being its first stab at a longer one. At first glance, it looks like EMC has nailed it.
The LWB Cabrio can carry eight people, the New Jersey-based shop said, which is two more than its shorter wheelbase builds. That’s enough space for a large family or two or three smaller ones. EMC upgraded the wheels, which are 18-inch Mercedes wheels, and the engine, which is an inline six-cylinder turbodiesel that makes 275 horsepower and 350 ft lb of torque. One can also order a LWB Cabrio with a V-8 that makes 430 horsepower. That’s all in addition to making the interior more usable and comfortable.

“For almost nine years, we’ve dedicated ourselves to perfecting the restoration of the SWB 250GD Wolf,” Alex Levin, who founded EMC, said in a statement. “Now, customers can enjoy everything they already know and love about the EMC Wolf—its authenticity, unique character, and timeless design—while comfortably accommodating more passengers.”
EMC sources its donor G-Wagens from all over the world, though in large part from European militaries, and has built and sold dozens of restored and refined cars for customers since the shop’s founding in 2017. Each build typically takes six to eight months, and customers must put down a 30 percent deposit to start the process. EMC is one of a number of shops that have sprung up in recent years to rehab and modernize classic SUVs like the G-Wagen and Land Rover Defender.
The Expedition Motor Company Long Wheelbase Cabrio G-Wagen starts at $235,000, and the company is currently taking new commissions. If you’ve ever looked at one of EMC’s machines and thought that it was nice but needed space for two additional passengers, now is the time.
