Nick Boksa (above) set up his eponymous company Boksa Marine Design in 2003. With headquarters in the Tampa area, it provides naval architecture and engineering services to yacht builders and commercial shipyards around the country. To continue growing it, changes at the top have occurred. Simultaneously, the studio has opened an extra office, in the yachting capital of the United States.

Firstly, Boksa himself is stepping down as president. He’s not retiring, though. Instead, he is now CEO and senior engineer. Taking over as president is Jeff Kuenning (left), who has been with the company since 2008. Most recently, he was vice president of operations. “Jeff and I have worked side by side for many years to build BMD into what it is today,” explains Boksa. “This transition strengthens our operational focus while allowing me to dedicate more time to complex engineering and long-term strategy.” Kuenning therefore will take on strategic planning, daily operations, and studio growth.
Secondly, Boksa Marine Design now has a second office, in Fort Lauderdale. This puts it in proximity to refit and service yards, for instance, as well as brokers, shipyard representatives, and industry suppliers. “South Florida is a critical hub for the recreational marine industry,” Kuenning notes. “Establishing a dedicated presence there allows us to better support our clients with on-the-ground engineering expertise and more responsive project coordination.” Pablo Raspo heads the office, on Las Olas Way.
Of course, the studio continues to focus on commercial and government vessels and projects. Overall, Boksa’s personal experience with refits, engineering, and shipyard operations, regardless of sector, lends benefits to all clients.
Ultimately, “This change provides clearer leadership alignment and more streamlined decision-making within our talented team,” Kuenning notes. “Our operations will benefit from enhanced planning, forecasting, and coordination, while our clients will continue to receive transparency, responsiveness, and direct access to senior engineering expertise.”
