Hargrave 145 Yacht Is “What I Would Have Built”

Six years ago, Hargrave Custom Yachts delivered its largest project to a loyal customer. The 186-foot (56.7-meter) Hargrave superyacht Baba’s was a popular topic during the 2019 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, her debut. As much as potential customers were impressed, though, there was just one problem. Some felt she was too big and wondered if something more manageable was possible, without losing the elevated elegance. The Hargrave 145 yacht is the result of those requests.

With a volume of 887 gross tons, and an elevated level of luxury and engineering, Baba’s showed American and especially international clientele what Hargrave was capable of doing. With the Hargrave 145 yacht, it’s still showing its capabilities. Specifically, the project appeals to those seeking and a smaller crew of just seven to eight. Of course, the approximate 400-gross-ton yacht also comes with a quicker build time and lower construction costs than a 186-footer.

The shipyard intends to build upon contract, since the Hargrave 145 yacht is for customizing. For starters, however, the in-house design team has reimagined some of the most talked-about features from Baba’s. The main-deck master suite, for instance, can have dramatic overhead lighting and a tufted headboard inset into the wall. The galley aboard Baba’s is a showcase of stone and wood, as much a place for guests to stop in as it is a work area. Similarly, the Hargrave 145 yacht has a striking galley, with stone walls and a stone-topped island. An L-shaped settee lets the chef and stews plan out service for parties. Yet, it also suits owners who like to plan menus with their chef.

Alfresco spaces for the owner’s party of 12 are equally flexible. Traditionalists may prefer large dining areas beneath the shade of the hardtop, for example. The upper deck just as easily can accommodate a pool and sunpads aft and a bar encircling a service area in the shade. Colorful lighting lends drama particularly at night here—and throughout interior areas like the saloon, too.

In terms of where owners can take the yacht, the expected range of 4,500 nautical miles at 12 knots puts plenty of destinations within reach. So, too, does the shallow draft of 6’8” (2 meters).

The reception for the Hargrave 145 yacht so far has been positive, according to the builder. In fact, the owner of the yacht Baba’s even commented. “If I saw this before I built my boat, this is what I would have built!” he told them.
