Tailgating is one of the most annoying things on the road (I sometimes do it, sorry), but when it is not deserved, it can be a real issue. Now, I’m going to play devil’s advocate here and say that tailgating is something that can get a slow/bad driver out of your way. However, when you are doing the right thing and the person behind your car just wants to be evil, yes, I think there needs to be a line of defense. One person on Reddit seems to have solved the conundrum, all with a bit of bright yellow tape. Not only has the Prius owner spent over 200,000 miles on the road, but he also fights back against those who wrong him while behind the wheel. Ah, sweet revenge.
This Prius Owner Is Rebuking Tailgaters
Per a Reddit post that made me LOL, a Prius owner who’s proudly traveled 200,000+ miles finally had enough with tailgaters. We’ve all been there. You’re on the highway, and someone in a pickup truck (sorry, but it’s true, and the truth hurts) comes barreling down the road right at your car. Fast-forward to 3 seconds later, and they’re shining lights in your rearview mirror, throwing up their favorite finger, cursing your entire bloodline, and all because they’d like to go 5–10 miles per hour faster. Or, in most cases, speed to the nearest congestion point or red light…
This Prius owner created the genius rear-side caution sticker that not only shines brightly at night to warn cars that are too close, but it also reflects light back at them when they try to get extremely close to the back of the vehicle. #BackUp
Duct Tape And A Dream
Reflective tape could be your next best solution for preventing and combating tailgaters. If you have black and yellow tape and don’t mind the look of it on the back of your car, I say go for it. Worst case, you clear up the highway and get home without being harassed by people behind you. Again, the Redditor goes on to say that “there’s no crime in making your vehicle more visible,” which might be technically untrue, but let’s accept it for the sake of argument. The owner says it works, too
Don’t Let The Tailgaters Get You Down
Whether you are in a Prius or not, you’re going to encounter tailgating. If it becomes a regular occurrence, you might be interested in grabbing a roll of black and yellow duct tape, creating a reflective caution strip (or two) at the back of your car, and hitting the road in total power and confidence. There’s always a DIY option when it comes to automobiles, and at least this one doesn’t cost much time or money. You’ll rule the roads!
