Superyacht owners, guests, and crew already have a concerted interest in the ocean’s health. In fact, several contribute to ocean conservation. There’s yet another way to give back, with the Ocean Assist program from the Water Revolution Foundation. It allows directly funding projects that restore and protect the waters upon which their yachts cruise.
Water Revolution Foundation, a non-profit focused on improving the oceans’ vitality and the yachting industry’s environmental footprint, revealed it at the recent Monaco Yacht Show. Rather than a carbon offset initiative, it’s a regenerative program specifically for yachting. Simultaneously, Ocean Assist is recognized by the United Nations and provides measurable impact due to the involvement of leading scientists. The scientists act as an advisory board, putting together a portfolio of projects eligible for periodic investment. The Water Revolution then provides reports to the investors and the yachting community at large on the projects’ accountability and implementation.
Investing in Ocean Assist takes place through Ocean Assist Units (OAU), at €1,000 per OAU (about $1,173 at press time). Each unit funds the vetted projects that restore biodiversity and build ocean-habitat resistance. Additionally, each unit removes 23 metric tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, through high-integrity nature-based solutions projects.
To ensure that the program is transparent and reputable, the Water Revolution Foundation has enlisted RINA for standards verification. The program further is publicly listed with the eCO2care VER Registry. Briefly, VERs are Verified Emission Reductions and globally recognized. Moreover, corporate sustainability reports can include VERs. As for the registry itself, it ensures transparency, traceability, and accountability.
OAUs are available directly through the Water Revolution Foundation. The non-profit provides official certificates documenting contributions, both for carbon reduction and ocean restoration.
“Integrating regenerative investment into our business value propositions is the way to preserve a future for all,” says Vienna Eleuteri, Water Revolution Foundation’s vice chair and Ocean Assist’s program architect. “Ocean Assist provides a scientifically robust, transparent, and regenerative path forward for yachting and beyond. By choosing Ocean Assist, we choose to turn our industry’s footprint into a legacy of regeneration.”
