The Chevy Bolt Is Back, And It’s Not Messing Around This Time

It’s time to gather around and rejoice in song: the Chevy Bolt is coming back to the U.S. Now, considering this bad boy got canceled in 2023, it’s not like we’ve waited super long for its replacement/revival. The official announcement came out this past week, and Reddit has been in a flurry ever since. The Chevy Bolt is one of the EVs that kind of kicked things off in this space, especially in the affordable segment.

You had Tesla at the top-end and the Nissan Leaf slugging along, but when the Bolt dropped in 2017, the game changed. Was it the perkiest, sexiest car ever? Well, no. But did it do its job and get people driving green for a great price? Why, yes! I really am just doom-scrolling through a sea of complaints and honestly needed a little joy from the Bolt EV, which continues to bring joy to me and countless other drivers.

It has been a busy week in the auto space, but especially following the announcement of the all-new, redesigned, and defined Chevrolet Bolt EV. We got a teaser email earlier in the week that something was coming, so this didn’t totally shock me. But seeing the Bolt EV in its newfound glory sure does tickle my fancy. Some of the Reddit replies to the official post on this one are negative, as always, but let’s stay happy for a minute.

One poster says, “Interesting that they’re really emphasizing it being small, practical, a commuter car. And that’s right, actually – the strength of the car is its practicality, affordability, and small size. It’s not sexy and it doesn’t try to be. And the advertising doesn’t try to pretend it is anything else.”

Agreed. Marketing this correctly and appropriately is a good move on Chevy’s part. We don’t need a Jaguar incident again…or do we…?

Of course, the Bolt EV could be better. I know that. You know that. With this latest announcement, the vehicle promises everything from a 255-mile maximum range to DC fast charge compatibility to a redesigned front and rear fascia. I’d preferred a better range. I also don’t think Apple CarPlay or Android Auto will be standard or included. Ugh. That said, we’re up to the “standard” charging and battery specs I’d want from an EV in 2025/2026, so that’s a win.

As was the case with the outgoing model, expect the new Bolt to also dominate the low-end of the price table for the foreseeable future. Long live the Chevy Bolt. We missed you.
