The majority of yacht concept designs these days target buyers seeking super-size superyachts. Ivan Erdevicki of ER Yacht Design has gone in the opposite direction, purposely to be more practical for more potential buyers. At the same time, the design of his MedEx yacht concept provides features that “small” yacht owners typically don’t get.
At 131 feet (40 meters), the design is in the heart of the market. Similarly, Erdevicki created it with Mediterranean cruising in mind. A draft of 6’6” (2 meters) means anchoring in some of the shallower tucked-away harbors is no issue. Mixing the Med lifestyle with explorer-esque lines like a high bow, the MedEx yacht concept pledges the long range owners want, too. According to the studio, if built—Erdevicki anticipates aluminum construction—the yacht should see 5,500 nautical miles at 10½ knots.

In terms of onboard amenities, the project calls for popular features like a hot tub, reserved stowage for tenders and toys, and opening platforms to expand the beach area. Additionally, flex spaces like the elongated upper deck cater to different needs. Loose lounges, further with sunshades, make it an all-day sundeck. A dining table just forward complements the afternoon-long use, too.
A few things do make ER Yacht Design’s MedEx yacht concept stand out, though. For instance, the 131-footer can have a certified helipad. Touch-and-go helicopter operations are rare enough in this size range. Yet another notable difference, there’s a 1-to-1 crew-to-guest ratio. The owners’ and guest accommodations aren’t in the typical locations, either. In fact, the master suite is aft on the bridge deck, providing private and separate access to the helipad/lounge area. The four guest staterooms are all on the main deck. Finally, the folding beach-area platforms are for more than just expanding space. Full furnishings, plus sun awnings, transform them to extra lounging and conversation areas. The studio sees them well suited to augmenting family gatherings, special celebrations, and sunset enjoyment.
